History Tour
St Ives has a surprising history of mining, fishing and other unexpected facts. Guided Tours of St Ives are a fun way to find out more about both the past and present of St Ives. You will be taken to some places which you might not find on your own and many insights will be given into how St Ives developed over the years. We don’t want to give away everything you will learn on the tour so come along and find out more.
Who comes on a history tour of St Ives?
Many people come on the tours. From people who have never visited St Ives before to those who have been coming every year for 40 years! And even people who lived here as children. We get visitors from Australia whose relatives emigrated over there when the mining and fishing died out in St Ives. Sometimes the people who come on the tours can also add points of interest like someone who told of the swimming lessons the school held in the harbour (and he hated!) or perhaps memories of Hart’s ice cream or the Radio One Road shows on the island.
The tours run in all weathers sometimes necessitating detours but they are always fun and informative and if the weather is really impossible we can always go under shelter somewhere or into a local café and carry on the talk inside. However we are usually lucky!
Talks can also be arranged indoors in local venues during the winter months.
