St Ives has long been famous for the quality of its light and its stunning scenery. Artists have been drawn to St Ives since the early 19th century and are still in the town living, visiting and working. We are lucky to have many high quality galleries in the town including the world famous Tate St Ives, The Hepworth Museum and the Leach Pottery.

During our Art in St Ives walking tour you will gain an insight into the lives of the artists who came to this small remote fishing village during the twentieth century, and established its reputation as one of the world’s foremost centres for modernist art.

Our tour will take you to all the notable places of interest around the town and we will bring these landmarks to life for you, providing an intimate insight into the lives of the artists living and working in this unique colony.

Who will enjoy The Art of St Ives?

Although the tour is focused on the fascinating history of art in St Ives, you do not have to be an art buff, or even have a keen interest in art to enjoy this walking tour. The tour is primarily about the people who brought the town to the attention of the art world – how they arrived, where they lived and worked, and the friendships and relationships that created a world-famous centre of modernist art.

Tour Details

The Art in St Ives tour takes place every Thursday at 11.00am from early March until early November, based on demand. It lasts around 75 minutes, and departs from outside The Guidhall on Street-an-Pol (follow the signs to the Visitor Information Centre). Please note that the Art Tour must be pre-booked – just call Dawn on 07816 180639 if you would like to book places on the tour. Please DO NOT just turn up in case no tour is operating.

The tour takes in all the places of interest in a leisurely walk, finishing at the Tate St Ives at around 12.15pm. The tour costs £5 per person, payable in cash to the tour guide, please.

The tours run in all weathers, sometimes necessitating detours, but they are always fun and informative and if the weather is really impossible we can always shelter somewhere or drop into a local café and continue the talk inside.  However we are usually lucky!

If you cannot make the Thursday 11am tour, please call Dawn on 07816 180639 to arrange a private walking tour at a time that suits you.
